So, You Want to be a Real Estate Agent?

Real estate is an ever-changing and evolving animal.  People tell me all the time that they’ve been thinking about becoming an agent. I always tell them exactly how I did it and point them in the right direction.

Two weeks of full-time, day school followed by the dreaded test (it wasn’t so bad!), fingerprints, and lot’s of money to get memberships, and tools up and running.  Night classes are also available. But these things don’t actually tell you what to do daily. You really need to align yourself with a company that has excellent training and classes for free. That’s where you learn what to do with you time every day and how to talk to people about real estate. I work for and highly recommend Coldwell Banker Realty – Gundaker.  I felt safe in my first years and am given plenty of freedom to do my own thing while retaining the crucial support from an experienced broker. The two biggest things with real estate are that you will never be able to learn everything and everything you know will change over time. So, if you are someone who doesn’t like change, constant learning, or risk, then I would say that this isn’t the business for you. If, however, being challenged in those ways lights your fire, then jump right in!  It will take about 3 years of you working another job at the same time. Unless you are independently wealthy or have a sugar daddy/momma!  Plan on keeping your current source of income and tailoring that back as your real estate business grows.
